Ranju Darshana is a young political activist and a rising voice in Nepal’s new-generation leadership. She gained national attention as a Kathmandu mayoral candidate at just 21, representing the Bibeksheel party. Her bold vision for clean and accountable politics continues to inspire youth participation in Nepal’s political scene.
Ranju Darshana is a Nepalese youth activist and politician. She has been active in politics from very young age of seventeen. She became an iconic person after her candidacy for mayor of Kathmandu Metropolitan City in the Nepalese local level election of 2017.
Early Life & Education
Raised in Kathmandu, Ranju was deeply influenced by social justice issues and joined political activism as a teenager. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Development Studies and a Master’s in Political Science, as well as a postgraduate degree in Counseling Psychology. Her academic and activist background informs her advocacy on mental health, education, and youth empowerment.
Political Activism & Public Engagement
Ranju became a symbol of new-generation politics, challenging the traditional leadership structure with a message of transparency and accountability. Her involvement in anti-corruption campaigns, earthquake relief efforts, and citizen rights advocacy — including her stance on gender equality in citizenship laws — reflects her commitment to grassroots activism and policy change.
Current Role
Alongside her activism, Ranju serves as a faculty member at Thames International College where she teaches Nepalese politics and history. She continues to inspire civic awareness, especially among young people, with a focus on building a more inclusive and responsible democratic society.
